In the early 1880s a number of Swedish people with strong Lutheran backgrounds settled in the eight-mile Gooseberry area of Morrow County in north central Oregon. This congregation was organized by the Board of American Missions (northwestern district) of the ALC in 1955. In cooperation with the Columbia Conference of the Augustana Synod, a two-point parish was set up with Valby Lutheran of Ione, a rural congregation which had existed since 1886. Rev.
